The “Female Leadership in Green Finance Series” has been presented by IIGF over the last year in an effort to highlight the contribution of women to the advancement of green finance. The seminars brought together female leaders from the financial industry, including corporations, research institutions, and international organizations, throughout three distinct events to share their work on sustainability-related topics. The series has sparked discussions around the difficulties and successes in this area. To bring together female leaders working in green and climate finance, hundreds of experts have gathered to highlight the outstanding accomplishments made in the finance sector.

To discuss a variety of different topics and give space to complex issues, the series has held three seminars:

  • Female Leadership in Green Finance Theme Salon in March 2022
  • Women’s Finance Forum: Her Carbon Future in October 2022
  • Green Finance, Social Responsibility, and Female Leadership Theme Salon in March 2023

Globally, the proactive work of female professionals has shown an innovative form of leadership in the fields of sustainable development and green finance. The seminars have given female professionals and academics a forum to discuss their unique experiences working in green finance and advancing carbon neutrality. The focus of the conversation sparked by the seminars was on academic accomplishments and successful experiences related to important strategies like the United Nations climate change and sustainable development goals, the “carbon peak/carbon neutral” strategies and the development of circular economies.

Professor Wang Yao, Director of the International Institute for Green Finance, has stated that green finance is essential for the transition to greener governance. Many women have actively supported the frontlines of green and low-carbon economies, consistently motivating people and institutions.

The International Institute for Green Finance has actively and continually worked to improve its organizational structure and promote the development of laws that can empower female leaders in the finance industry. The discussions will now evolve to how to better promote women’s involvement and inclusivity in a variety of disciplines, as well as how to enhance women’s leadership in environmental governance. The Institute has worked on Gender Finance reports in the past and will keep developing policy proposals and suggestions to enable female experts and create equitable systems in green finance.
