In response to climate change, nations around the world are increasingly adopting carbon markets as a key mechanism to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. To address the ongoing loss of biodiversity, the Taskforce on Nature Markets was established in March 2022 with the aim of fostering nature-positive markets that promote both equity and ecological sustainability in global economic activities. This article, authored by Liu Huixin, Executive Director of the Climate Finance Research Center at IIGF, CUFE, and Ying Cui, Director of the Climate Finance Center at IIGF, CUFE, presents theoretical research on nature markets, reviews both domestic and international practices, examines key challenges in their development, and offers recommendations on how China can strengthen its efforts in advancing nature markets.
